Skincare I Have Used Up: Did I love or Did I Hate it?

Personally, I am bad at skincare empties. I go through products very slowly and sometimes when I see people empty serums every month I wonder whether I use my skincare correctly. So everything you see in this post are products I have gathered over a few months.

The hardest products to go through for me would be oils because it’s not something I use on the daily. I also have a weird habit of holding onto the last drops of any product for that “special occasion” when I would need it. Obviously, that occasion never comes.

I love seeing other peoples skincare empties, as these are usually products that they have a strong opinion on and I hope you will enjoy this post as well.

Disclaimer: recommendations are based on my own experiences and one product might work for me but not for you. Please do your own research to further decide if this is something you wish to try.

My skincare empties list

Youth To The People Superberry Oil

Youth To The People never disappoints and that counts for the Superberry Oil as well. It is a beautiful blend of oils, with a thin texture that absorbs very fast. The scent of this is absolutely divine. It is very nourishing and gives my complexion a glow from within.

The mix of berry oils is supposed to be antioxidant-rich which favours a youthful complexion, and the Prickly Pear reduces redness and hyperpigmentation. I will definitely repurchase this at the occasion.

The Inkey List 15% Vitamin C and EGF & Retinol Serum

I won’t go too much into details about the two products as I have a review here on the Inkey List. I thoroughly enjoyed these two and will probably repurchase the Vitamin c and EGF serum in the near future. As for the Retinol serum, although I love it, there are so many serums and creams out there that I want to try. I don’t see myself repurchasing this one anytime soon.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

I got the Ultra Repair Cream in a tube thinking it was different from the one in the pot. They aren’t. It also has the First Aid Beauty key ingredient colloidal oatmeal, but also notable ingredients such as shea butter, squalane and ceramides.

There’s a strange thing that happenned with this cream.

I bought it before going on Accutane when my skin was at its oiliest. And I hated it. I found it to be heavy and occlusive.

Come Accutane and dry skin and I fell in love with it. It felt so airy, hydrating, dewy and just fabulous. Once the colder months hit and my Accutane dose increased, it wasn’t enough to keep my skin happy. But I’ll be sure to grab the Ultra Repair Cream in the pot and enjoy it come Spring.

Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalising Mask

She pricey.

I believe that I had this product at a very generous discount, and it was most likely under 40€.

The Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalising Mask is one of those products that didn’t impress me at first. It’s supposed to deeply nourish your skin and give a radiant look in the morning. And I used it and I didn’t see it. I really didn’t see any change. But I continued using it. And one day it came down to me on the wings of an angel, that my skin wasn’t oily when I woke up in the morning and that it actually was – radiant. And I needed more.

The mask has a beautiful blend of root and plant extracts that have been used in Korean traditional medicine:

Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Paeonia Lactiflora Extract, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Polygonatum Odoratum Rhizome Extract, Lilium Candidum Bulb Extract, Rehmannia Chinensis Root Extract, Rehmannia Glutinosa Root Extract, Honey, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Morus Alba Root Extract, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Seed Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract

This is definitely one of the skincare empties going onto my repurchasing list. I finished it during my Accutane treatment and it was even more wonderful on my dry skin.

Lips: Hurraw lip balm & Glossier lip balm in Mango & Laneige in Mint Choco

One is meh, the other is cancelled, and the third one is holy grail.

Hurraw

I have had multiple people comment on Instagram saying how they loved the Hurraw lip balms. I personally found it insufficient. It didn’t nourish mu lips enough and it didn’t stay on my lips enough. It goes in the bin with no afterthought.

Glossier

The Glossier balm dot com is as many say glorified vaseline. And I’m not mad about that. I have another three of them so I’m not running out soon. They stay nicely put on the lips so I don’t need to reapply them too much, and they keep my lips nicely moist.

I really loved the brand before all the drama issued with employees coming forward about facing racism at Glossier. Now I don’t purchase from them, and just wait to see if they will fix the problems.

Laneige

Laneige, oh Laneige. This is my third pot of the famous lip sleeping mask, and if you haven’t tried it yet what are you waiting for? It keeps your lips nice and moist all night long and you can also use it during the day as a lip balm. One pot of this goodness would usually last me for about 8 months.

But fear not, I have my fourth pot lined up, and it’s the vanilla one. I have tried the grapefruit, berry and mint choco flavours. They are all great and the scent is very discreet. In terms of the quality of the balm, it’s all consistent across the flavours.

Now, from my observations, every market has different Laneige lip sleeping mask flavours. The vanilla scent isn’t available to order from South Korea, and the apple lime isn’t available in Sephora Europe/US. As for limited edition flavours they are only available at Sephora US, which makes me angry.

By Wishtrend Polyphenols in Propolis Ampoule

It is always a good idea to have a propolis rich serum in your routine, as it can be beneficial for any skin type. It reduces redness and inflammation and has a soothing effect on the skin. Having it combined with polyphenols is even a better idea. Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. If you want to know more I have a post where I talk more about polyphenols in green tea.

I am definitely a fan of this serum and will repurchase it as it gives me a glowy complexion and has a very soothing effect. It is difficult to say whether it fought the free radicals and reduced the signs of ageing, but I know that in the long run, it will definitely show such results.

Skincare empties are defintley a struggle for me but I hope that this post has entertained you.
